Good things do happen!

I know. Sometimes there couldn't be anything harder to believe. But I'm here to tell you that they really do happen. We're a case in point. We're goodthings.com, and we're so glad you're here to join us in our journey. In the face of naysayers and a market crash that - justifiably or not - has thrown almost all dot-coms out of favor, despite money crunches and more business plan revisions than you can shake a stick at, despite all this and more, goodthings.com has launched! We're learning and evolving, and we're doing something we fundamentally believe is important: promoting all the many and varied and nuanced "goodthings" the world has to offer.

One year ago, we were an idea sketched out on the back of a napkin. Today, we're drowning in a sea of napkins, but we are much more than an idea. We are an actual company. Five of us share two offices where we live and breathe goodthings everyday. We struggle with all the usual challenges - how to make our money go far, how to find investors, how to attract an audience, how to deliver our products. But we also have the rare opportunity to everyday discover all the "goodthings" in this world - the stories that connect, the companies that are doing good, the people who are making a difference, the ideas and thoughts that inspire.

Recently, we've had the opportunity to hear your "goodthings," and the conversation is exhilarating. Imagine, coming into work in the morning, opening up your e-mail and finding a letter from someone you've never met, telling you a story about the creative ways they got to know their neighbors...or a story about an amazing corporate policy that enabled an office full of people to donate their vacation days to a sick colleague...or a story about an organization that pays tribute to people who go the extra mile for other people...or a story about a great CD that turned a casual music listener into an obsessed fan...or a story about a person that's working behind the scenes in their community to make a difference for underprivileged children...or even a great story about how to creatively spend a rainy day. Truly, the goodthings are limitless! And we are widening this dialogue through our new Web site.

So, we keep chugging. Even after the VC (venture capitalist) guy tells us to face the truth: "people just want Jerry Springer." We don't buy it. Even after we've heard a million and a half times that B2C (business to consumer) is dead. (We call ourselves a B2P company, by the way – we believe you're a whole person, not just a "consumer.") We keep working. Why? Because, for every naysayer, there are three times as many people who tell us they are excited about our efforts. We won't be swayed. We keep hearing the "yeses" of folks who want more good in their lives. Good stories. Good business. Good people. Good books and music and movies. Good things. We are more than a dot-com. We're the manifestation of the idea that goodthings can and DO happen to help make our lives extraordinary. Join us in making sure your life is awash in goodthings.

Thanks for your interest and support. Welcome to our new site!
