Web Site Dedicated to Good Stories, Good People, Good Work and "Good Things" Launches in Seattle Despite Recent Trend of Dot.com Closures, New Site Launches andgoodthing.com Founders See "b2p" Business to People as Future of Web SEATTLE, December 13, 2000 In the current climate of dot-com closings and lay-offs, not all the news on the net is bad according to one new start-up, goodthings.com. The new b2p business to people community website, www.goodthings.com which launched in November, has added more than a thousand new members and subscribers in just the last few weeks thanks to word-of-mouth praise and grassroots support from a strong network of followers. The website is dedicated to delivering stories that highlight creativity, connectivity and the efforts of people to contribute constructively to the world. Are they optimists? "You bet!" replies goodthings.com co-founder and CEO Barcy Fisher. "The inspiration for goodthings.com was hatched in the heyday of Internet hysteria, but we never let ourselves get caught up in the hype, Fisher insists. We know that we are coming into the marketplace at a time when being a dot.com isn't popular anymore. But people still need the Internet and we think the Web's greatest capacity for influence is to give people a voice, help them access information and connect them to other people in their communities. The website offers a range of stories and information with content being updated on a weekly basis. Additionally, members can subscribe to the 'goodletter,' a free weekly e-mail filled with stories and links to interesting and worthwhile people, projects or businesses. We want to empower people with information so that they can make informed decisions or get more involved in the causes they care about, said Fisher. "We want our services to offer something unique and inspiring while being practical and useful." Some of the recent subjects include goodthings on National Public Radio (NPR), an innovative animal sanctuary, favorite children's books, progressive employee policies, and good music and book recommendations. In addition, goodthings.com plans to offer original, syndicated stories and information to other media outlets, corporations and non-profit organizations looking to provide their constituents with a steady stream of good news and worthwhile information. The response has been immediate and positive according to Fisher. People from all over the country are contributing their own stories and ideas. Clearly, we've struck a chord that resonates with them."
